Matamata is a great little town about three hours away from Auckland. It’s most famous for Hobbiton i.e the farmland that was used for the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, and it’s certainly taken advantage of its claim to fame with all its hobbit holes and Gollums. I visited Matamata back in April (click to read my posts on Hobbiton and Matamata) and here’s a few photo’s to give any prospective visitors or wanderlust sufferers an idea of what the town is like.
